1 2 puzzlepiece Devotion: God Cares About The Little Things in Our Life“In all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight,” (Proverbs 3:6)

The week before New Years one of the ladies in my chronic pain Bible study suggested we do a jigsaw puzzle on New Year’s Eve–actually, New Year’s Eve Day–I mean, who would ever want to stay up until midnight? Four of us agreed; and we set time and place and who would bring what.

Then the waiting began. And as it did, each of us became more and more excited. Emails and telephone calls flew as the hour approached. We were just so happy to be able to do something that felt like a party, where we could eat and drink junk food, and be well enough to do it!

So we met at my house, giggling in our pajamas and slippers. We ate something healthy before bringing out the junk food, and we picked out a puzzle we thought we might be able to do. All evening we worked diligently on the rather difficult puzzle, telling stories, eating like 5-year-olds, and laughing at the idiosyncrasies God gave each of us that made us unique.

What a night! And we finished at midnight! What a surprise! We went outside and joined the “Happy New Years” of neighbors. I’d lived in my home for 9 years and have never spent New Years at midnight in the street!

When we came back in to put away the puzzle, I noticed that two pieces were missing. We searched high and low, shaking out blankets, checking our clothes, on our knees on the floor (quite a difficult position, both down and back up), moving furniture, clearing items from the table. . . the pieces were just not there!

Okay, I’d make a note on the box and if ever that puzzle was done again, it really was a hard puzzle, then I’d know that two ferris wheel puzzle pieces were missing. Hugs and good-byes were said and the glorious, stay-up-to-midnight night was over, leaving satisfied smiles and sweet memories.

Getting out of bed on New Year’s Day, Jan. 1st, 2011, was not the easiest of tasks. But I was still smiling as I finished the cleaning-up chores. The last thing I did was to pick up my camera for one more picture of the puzzle we had put together in the last seven hours of 2010.

And there, sitting on the table in plain view, were the two missing puzzle pieces.

Welcome to 2012!

Prayer: God, let us remember all year long that You are indeed interested in the small things of our lives. Nothing is to minor for You, to unimportant, too silly. You know exactly what it is that we need to make us smile and to remind us of Your presence.

Here is What Our Readers Have Shared:

  1. Margaret Shearman says:

What a wonderful way to spend New Year’s Eve. Thanks for your inspirational ideas that I might use next year.

  2. Jonnie: This sounds like it was such fun! I think this sort of activity can do as much for us as medications and other therapy, maybe more! Not that I’m suggesting we stop them and just party all the time. ;-)

I definitely agree with you that God cares about every detail that concerns us. My tired brain isn’t coming up with a specific example of that in my life right now but He has shown me this many, many times. Just today He reminded me that often I don’t have a solution to a particular problem because I didn’t ask Him to help me find it.

How neat that you found those two missing puzzle pieces yesterday morning!

  3. So glad I stumbled onto this site! I know God is the one that directed me to your site. I have dealt with chronic fatigue for over twenty years. I am also deal with an inbalanced immune problem.

I also have a couple of friends that deal with chronic illnesses that I will be sending this link to.
Blessings to you and your ministry!
