Where Do You Turn In Your Time of Need?

where do you turn Where Do You Turn In Your Time of Need?Fiona asks, “Where do you turn when you are in need?” Fears and worries can take over our thoughts if we allow them to. Where do we turn instead?

“So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.” (Isaiah 41:1)

Have you ever had one of those days when you thought things were going okay only to get some bad news about a friend or a situation that you had been praying about? Yesterday my husband heard that he may be losing his job due to another company downsizing. The first thing that he said went through his head was how was he going to take care of us, especially with my medical needs and our need for health insurance.

This is just one instance of where something can come out of the blue, causing us to become worried and fearful, wondering what is going on, how will we cope with this, where will we turn to for help? Of course, my husband’s natural instinct was to start thinking about where to look for another job, how we should cut back on expenses, or do we need to try to sell our home and move into something smaller.

All kinds of thoughts can go through our heads when we feel our resources are being taken away from us, just when we feel we need them the most. Where do you turn when circumstances are out of your control?

My husband came home yesterday evening and said that the Lord had really put on his heart that he was focusing on how he was trying to meet our needs himself rather than turning to the Lord and asking Him, “Okay, what now?” My husband told me that his whole day had been wrapped up in fear and worry, but when the Lord was finally able to get through to him he realized that he had allowed doubt and dismay to overrule him and it ruined his entire day.

I noticed a change in him this morning. He seemed a lot more calm and said that he felt at peace. Not at peace knowing he may be losing his job but at peace knowing that God is in control. Often the only real peace we can find in this life, in our circumstances, is in resting in God and trusting Him to work things out. God has our best interests at heart and if we can rest on that, then the fear that can so easily grip us loses its hold and we can find rest regardless of our circumstances.

Prayer: Father, please help me to turn to You as soon as I hear some distressing or unpleasant news so that I do not allow fear and worry to overwhelm me. Remind me that You are always there waiting to help, regardless of how circumstances look. Amen.

Such an encouraging devotional Fiona. Thank you so much for sharing in the midst of your trying circumstances. Praise God indeed for His strength, comfort, peace, hope & joy in the midst of turmoil. I pray that well paid work will arrive swiftly for your husband. Hugs.

I’m getting better at seeking the Lord quickly in crises. However, I can still often have a “worry wart time” before realizing that it is such a waste of time & energy!!! Slow learner! LOL!

Your devotional has already been emailed to me via someone on the site that you have greatly encouraged! PRAISE GOD! Bless you Fiona. Lotsoluv Kerryn

  3. Fiona, I could relate to all that you said in terms of worry or wondering when new circumstances come and hit us off guard!

I am not sure if I ever will be one to turn quickly away from the shock and wondering. Yet I know that in all my life trials in the past, that all the worrying brought nothing but wasted time. God worked everything out and what was not worked out to my liking, He brought peace.

Oh, that I can get there faster as to be where He is in our trials is the best place to be.

    Thanks fro the good words!
