When was the last time you heard these words? A touching book that Lisa recently read and gives 5 stars is I’m Proud of You: My Friendship with Fred Rogers by reporter Tim Madigan.
And if you really do have a hankering to hear someone say those words, drop by Mister Roger’s web site where he will sing “I’m Proud of You” as well as other classics like “You are Special” and “I’m Still Myself Inside.”
And we thought this Presbyterian minister was ministering just to kids! Here at Rest Ministries we think most of us can relate with his messages.

Freebies for Your 2010 Birthday
January 29, 2010 by Rest Ministries

Since it is the beginning of the year we figured you probably have a new calendar. Don’t be shy to put your own birthday on that calendar! And while you’re at it, we thought you may be interested in some of the goodies we have found for people all over the country in the USA who are having a birthday. There are far too many of us who have a chronic illness and therefore, are unable to spend extra money on eating dinner out splurging on a desert.
If you go to the website Free Birthday Treats you will find a wide selection of free or discounted forms of entertainment, restaurant discounts, or actual freebies, and other services. You can select by state and if you want to view just free items or services or also discounts.
For example, it lists restaurants where you may get a free meal, but where are the people accompanying you also receive a free dessert. How cool is that?
Some of these freebies require that you sign up for e-mail notifications or make your plans in advance. So don’t wait until the day of your birthday to check out this site. Visit it now to see what things you may want to select for your birthday.
The good news is many of them are also offered during the week of your day or the month of your birthday, you don’t have to get your car washed, go have dinner, grab ice cream, and hit an amusement park all on the same day.
Be sure to pass this on to friends or relatives who also have children. There is a special area of the website which offers just for kids.
Even Minimal Activity Decreases Depression
January 26, 2010 by Rest Ministries

If you are stuck in a rut right now and feeling the blues of winter you likely have heard how exercise can boost your mood and decrease levels of depression. However, when your body is sore and you are feeling depressed, who actually feels like exercising? Personally, we’d much rather grab a bowl of macaroni and cheese and watch a Lifetime movie.
The good news is that although lots of studies may have shown that exercise can decrease depression, a new health survey done in Britain with 20,000 people, has revealed that it actually takes very little physical activity to lift your spirits. Just 1-3 twenty-minute sessions a week of activity reduced people’s suffering of depression.
In fact, they found that the biggest impact on one’s mood, came from doing anything — even mopping the floor — for at least 20 minutes a day. Mark Hamer, PhD of the University College of London, says “Daily activity knocks down the distress score by more than half.”
Though you may not want to run and grab a mop to chase those blues away, these findings are good to keep in mind when you are debating about whether you should go for that short walk, get up and play tennis with your Wii, or throw a ball with your dog for a few minutes. It’s encouraging to find that even minimal exercise in short intervals can significantly impact our mental health.
Visit Web Sites On a Regular Schedule

If you have a bunch of web sites you like to visit every week, but your mind doesn’t want to wrap around the technology options to remind you to do this via feeds or widgets, etc. this service may be a great fit!
My Weekly Browsing Schedule is a Firefox extension (that means you would need to be using Mozilla Firefox rather than Internet Explorer – we use MF around here!)
It opens your favorite web sites automatically based on what day of the week, and time, you have specified.
Just add the current page (or add from your bookmarks), choose the day and time, and you’re done. You can also specify certain websites to open when you open up your browser.
All of these can be great ways to keep up with health or illness web sites or news you want to check with on a regular basis, but you don’t necessarily want to be added to their mailing lists.
