“Trust in the Lord with all your heart & lean not on your own underst&ing; in all your ways acknowledge him, & He will make your paths straight.” (Proverbs 3:5-6)
I listened to a speaker recently who talked about what we do when we are feeling overwhelmed. I guess I took some notice, as it’s something I seem to feel far too often. Life with a chronic illness is often overwhelming.
One of the things that really struck me was that when we are in the midst of a situation that seems overwhelming & out of our control, our natural response is to want to run away in fear.
But God says, we don’t have to move in our fear. We need to lean back into God & His security which never fails us or lets us go.
It’s hard to lean back, just trusting that someone is there to hold you, or catch you. I know I like to feel I have some control over what I’m doing, even when I know I often can’t control what happens. We can’t always control the outcomes of our lives; instead we need to trust those outcomes to God. No matter how bad things might seem to us, God promises that He will never let us go & He will always be there with us.
God made us for relationship with Him. We aren’t supposed to do life alone—that was never God’s plan. In fact, we can’t do it alone in our own strength.
Life can still be tough & we might be fearful, but our security is in God alone. He can be trusted. As one of our Pastors often quotes, “The God, who planned Calvary, can be trusted.”
I want to learn to lean more & more, into God’s security, to trust Him first & to walk in His ways.
