“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer & petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all underst&ing, will guard your hearts & your minds in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4:6-7)
“Are you acting like a cow?” There was a hush over the audience as our guest speaker continued. As a self-conscious female, I immediately thought, “What?! I’m not a cow!” I kept listening to see what he was referring to.
He talked about how sometimes we are so caught up in our struggles & pain that we aren’t focused on God at all. We try so hard to fix our own problems that we aren’t living by the priorities God gives us.
And like the cow whose only focus is on eating & keeping his head low to the ground (& never looking up), we can get like that too. We forget to look up & give our struggles & frustrations to God. The most important thing we can do for ourselves is to maintain our close relationship with God.
Okay, so maybe I am a “cow” sometimes. If fact, probably most of the time. We need to keep our focus on God & let Him h&le our life issues. When we do that, not only does it open our eyes to possibilities we never saw before, but it releases our mind & heart & allows us to experience true joy & peace – even while we’re in the midst of something dark & painful.
Sometimes all we need to do to feel better is to start looking up. It’s amazing what a different view & a little peace will do for us.
Prayer: Dear God, lately I seem to be looking down a lot. Forgive me for not h&ing my struggles over to You. Help me to look up & see the many possibilities You have in store for me. Amen.
