“If you do not stand firm in your faith, you will not stand at all.” (Isaiah 7:9b)
“Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith; be men of courage; be strong.” (I Corinthians 16:13)
Recently I’ve had some treatment to try to block the pain messages to a certain part of my back in the hope that they won’t return, at least for some time. From the little I understand about it, the treatment works by confusing those messages from the brain.
That “confusion” has seemingly altered the pain messages, but also left me with some other things that are altered, or upset as well.
A friend shared with me recently how when driving on a road that was not yet listed on their GPS–despite it being a major highway–the GPS seemed completely flawed and kept making the following statements:
“recalibrating, recalibrating”
“find road”
“U-turn, find road”
“recalibrating”
We laughed about how like the recent treatment I’ve had to do with my brain and the pain messages in my body, it was. She suggested that maybe my brain was in a similar state of confusion to their GPS. The body that is now confused because of what’s been done and may take time to settle down, is maybe just recalculating to cope with the changes.
From time to time, I can feel lost and confused with different thoughts going round and round in my head and unsure which way to turn or which direction to take. At those times, I need to recalibrate my thinking, or find the right road to be on.
There is something I can depend upon that will never need recalibrating. As these verses say, without the strength of our faith, we cannot stand. There are 22 references to the phrase “stand firm” in the NIV Bible and many of them refer to standing firm in the faith. No matter what else goes on in my head, my faith is something I can depend upon and holding on to that, is what will help me to stand through whatever confusion there is and no matter how long it takes.
Prayer: Father, give me patience and help me to stand firm, trusting in You. Do in me whatever recalibrating I need, so I am aligned to Your direction for my life. Amen.

Is there something in your life that needs recalibrating? Or have you drifted from the road that you should be on?
Hi Fiona,
Good to read your encouragement, thanks so much.

Fiona, I just “happened” to stumble on this 🙂 …almost a year after it was posted. And that is all in God’s timing for me, because I have just come into what seems to be a strong season of “recalibrating” in my own life. Thank you for the reminder of the blessing of standing firm in Him. We can truly count on Him no matter the season of our lives. Hope all is well with you. Gentle hugs…BeBe <3
