Illness may spur on anxiety but that doesn’t mean we have to accept it and live with it. Fiona explains.
“When anxiety was great within me, Your consolation brought joy to my soul” (Psalm 94:19).
The KJV reads–rather than “anxiety was great”–is “the multitude of my thoughts.” That “multitude of thoughts” can seem to often be residing in my head and making me anxious, but this verse reminds me that knowing God is in control can bring joy to my soul.
Sometimes it’s easier to write that than it is to keep on living it, each and every day.
After a pretty tough few weeks, I’m at a point of looking at options for what can make my situation better; help ease the pain, or increase my ability to cope with it. Even whilst I’m trying not to get ahead of myself and worry about things that may or may not happen, I’m still finding my mind is full of that “multitude of thoughts”– some fear, some worry, even times of panic.
Just because some treatment option I tried before, was unpleasant and may not have been as successful as it is for others, doesn’t mean that trying it again will have the same result this time. Sure, it might, but it just might work better too.
God is in control, not only when things work out well, but also when they don’t–as we see it. We don’t always get to understand right now, what God is doing. Maybe we will only make sense of it somewhere further down the track, or maybe, we will never know enough to understand why.
I’m tired and my pain has seemed so much worse lately. Sometimes it’s hard to concentrate or focus on much else. These are times when I need to hold onto what I believe. Even if I might struggle to feel okay I can believe that God will make it okay–maybe not today, but one day. And that should bring me joy!
Prayer: Father God, may each one reading this today be comforted that You are in control–no matter how hard today may seem. Ease those anxious thoughts and help us to rest in You. Give us a sense of joy as we face each day–with You. Amen.
