9 Responses to Surrendering Our Wishes to Pray for God’s Will

  1. Julie, I’m so sorry your son lost his friend. When God says “no” to our prayers, it’s hard to understand. I love the prayer and am praying it with you.

    • Thanks, Trudy. We all have things in our life that God says “no” to that we cannot understand. If God said “yes” to everything, then we would be in control and not Him. Thank you for your comments!

  2. THANK YOU JULIE…FOR YOUR MESSAGES…INSPIRING TO ALLIGN OUR LIVES IN GODS WILL FOR US.
THANK YOU ? SO MUCH LISA.
A POWERFUL AND LOVING SERVICE FOR US… FOR ME IT IS
    EMOTIONALLY ILL. IT IS HARD…
    SO DIFFICULT…TO ME

    • Venus, I am sorry for your struggles, but am so glad Rest Ministries can be a help to you. I will pray for you. Thank you for commenting, and God bless! 🙂

  3. Thank you Julie for your sharing something that is always a part of what it means to be a Christian, and even when it is not what we want, we rest in that God has a bigger plan even if we don’t understand why. This really touches me right now due to situations occuring in my life.

I think back to when Peter tried to stop Jesus from being arrested and subsequently crucified, at the Garden of Gethasame and in our human senses what he did seemed totally rational and true, but if we look at it from the Lord’s point of view, He had a perfect plan. Imagine now if Jesus did not sacrifice His life to pay for our sin and if somehow humans “protected” him from the father’s plan.
As I prayed for God to heal a family member and He has decided not to, now I pray as she lies close to seeing the Lord, that God use her life and her death to show others salvation. To bring her to His kingdom now IS His will.

God can use any situation for good, even though we cannot fathom how or why, and this where we surrender to Him and allow Him to do HIs will.

    • Sue Ellen, thank you so much for sharing. Your comments are so insightful! I am sorry you are having to go through this emotional time with your loved one, but it sounds like God has given you His wisdom in the matter. I know He will be working through this for good, and I pray that you can see those results.

God bless you. My heart goes out to you during this difficult time.

  4. Julie, what a heartbreaking thing for Ryan to lose his best friend through the accident. Wonderful that so many were praying he’d live but the Lord chose otherwise.

This is a tough area for me, i.e., “surrendering our wishes”, etc. Why do I often seem to think my way, a weak creature, would know better than my loving, wise Creator?

Thank you for sharing your personal story and for reminding me of what Jesus said to His Father just before His trial and agonizing death. All for us!

    Blessings,
    Beth

    • Thank you, Beth for all of your comments. I think it is hard for everyone. We all want control, and that is hard to surrender. I believe God is constantly working on each and every one to die to self and let Him take control, and sometimes hurt is part of that training. Blessings to you, dear sister!

  5. Hi Venus!

My main area of health issues is also emotional/mental. Thank you for adding a comment here. I’ve been disappointed that more people with our type of suffering don’t usually do this.

I suppose it’s often fear of once again feeling the stigma and misunderstanding as folks respond.

But the Lord understands us perfectly and accepts and loves us just as we are.

May you know His presence, comfort and guidance each day.
