5 Responses to Are You Tired? Autumn is Your Invitation

  1. Shelly, thank you for this perspective on Autumn. Though I love the fall colors, I get kind of downhearted to see the bare trees that look dead. But I try to remember that they’re still alive and their roots are growing down deeper. ๐Ÿ™‚ I love the thought that fall is an invitation to rest. ๐Ÿ™‚ This line gives me a peaceful feeling in my heart – “I see the layer of leaves as a comforting blankets that muffles footfalls and brings a hush to the forest.” May we rest in Jesus!

  2. Shelly, this is a beautiful picture of God calling us to rest ๐Ÿ™‚
Makes me wish it was autumn here too!

Thanks for reminding us that God doesn’t “admonish us for our weariness” – He just calls us to rest in Him.

  3. Hi Shelly. What a delightful devotional!

I love this story of Elijah. Maybe it’s partly because I have listened to Mendelssohn’s oratorio “Elijah” over and over and over again. Also, my hubby has used this in an excellent sermon on depression. God understood why Elijah was so down and prescribed the perfect remedies for him. No condemnation.

The first thing that came to my mind when I read the question was our future. It’s a stressful in our home these days for several reasons. One is that in about 10 days my hubby sees a surgeon to find out the results of some recent tests. We suspect that it will mean surgery.

My heart goes out to you partly because you say you have trouble getting any real sleep. Wow! That must be extremely hard. I pray you can feel cosy and reasonably comfortable tonight, comforted by the fact that you are resting in the arms of the Lord.

    Thanks hon.

  4. Shelly, such a sweet and beautiful picture to enter into this new season with. Not only the physical season but the spiritual season. I love the thought of hunkering down to rest. The thought of restful dens of peace as we rely on God to throw a blanket upon our chilled bodies, allowing his Holy Spirit to soothe and comfort. Thank you my friend. Your words being so descriptive, allowed be to be elevated to that beautiful scene.
(even from hot humid Florida! Lol)
    Love you! Di
