Despite trying to add variety to your life do the days run together? Karen shares.
“In his heart a man plans his course, but the Lord determines his steps.” (Proverbs 16:9).
Have you ever noticed your Monday looks a lot like your Tuesday? Your Thursday looks much like your Friday? If you are unable to work outside the home and your fatigue limits your physical activity, this might sound familiar.
I have a daily routine. It’s a process of waking, resting, showering, resting, dressing and yes, more resting. You get the idea.
Every day is pretty much the same. Days are filled with finishing necessary tasks followed by rest. If only resting paid well!
I call my parents regularly. I joke that I have no new or exciting news. It’s true, most of my days are just ordinary.
Even holidays are ordinary. My body doesn’t give me extra energy just because it’s Christmas Day or Fourth of July. In fact, I might even get less because of all the stress that stems from the holiday.
Any change to my regular schedule may bring more pain and/or less sleep. Changing my schedule can take days to recover.
There is a temptation to feel like our ordinary days add up to a life without meaning. That thinking is wrong. If we don’t travel to exotic places or break world’s records–so what?
God tells us in Proverbs 16:9 that we can plan all we want, but God has our precious life in His hands.
If you’ve ever looked at the back of a tapestry, it’s not perfect. It’s hard to make out the design. Once you see the top side–it’s amazing!
As long as we follow Christ, He will make the ugly side of our lives into a beautiful work of art!
This ordinary day is worthwhile just because you were there to give that smile, say that kind word, or help someone through a problem.
Prayer: Dear Lord, thank You for this day. Help me to make it a good day. Help me to be thankful for my ordinary days and may I be used to bring You honor and glory! Amen.

Do you feel all your days are the same? Do you ever feel like your days add up to a boring life? How do you handle it?
This is “You Have My Surrender” featuring Lauren Daigle. I go through seasons of being content in just resting, and then a couple days later (yes, days!) I want to “get busy” and do something for God or others. It is so hard to just keep surrendering it over to the Lord, again and again, but I know it is what He desires. Hoping this song blesses you. -Lisa
As I read this Karen, I was remembering a quote I read some years ago, said something like “it’s how you live your ordinary days that determines whether or not you have big moments – so go out and make something of the ordinary days”.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts with us.
I like that saying!
Yes, your days sound like mine. It is so easy to limit our lives and become isolated. I try to do at least one thing each day that is outside of myself. A card to a shut in, a Facebook message to encourage a friend, little things like that add value to our ordinary days.
Thank you so much for sharing such a nice devotional.

I think that’s great Sandy. Thinking outside ourselves us can make us feel so much better!
It is so refreshing to hear from others whose experience life the way that I do! I have been challenged to remember that God IS using me…with the smile, kind word, Godly perseverance…..so I must rely on Him, and not discredit the days He had planned for me! Thanks for your words of encouragement and a call for living each day with purpose!
Thanks for the encouraging words Amy!
