Photos Can Give Pain Relief

Most of us would say it's common sense that our loved one or pet will reduce the pain we are in. They can talk to us, give us compassion, distract us from pain & more. But a new study has some surprising results! You don't actually need the person there! In fact, a photo of your loved one may bring you more comfort than the person being there holding your h&! Scientists at the University of California at Los Angeles applied pain (heat), to the forearms of 28 women who had all been in relationships for at least six months. Each woman had the heat/pain applied while: holding the h& of their partner who was sitting behind a curtain; holding the h& of a stranger sitting behind a curtain; holding a squeeze ball; viewing a photo … [Read more...]

Why Your Dog Needs a New Bed This Christmas

Do your feet trip over Fido instead of hitting the floor? If so, you aren’t alone. Hurt Feelings Really Do Cause Physical Pain

Does your illness flare when you get your feelings hurt or feel left out? One study has proven that hurt feelings aren't all in your head! Researchers in California found a physiological basis for social pain through a study which monitored the brains of people who thought they had been "cut out" of a computer game by other players. The shock & distress of this rejection registered in the anterior cingulate cortexthe same part that also responds to physical pain. (Science, Oct. 2003) So when people say something that can really "get to you..." try to let it go & pray about how to best respond. Forgiveness Is Healthy For Body & Soul

Yes, our feeling will get hurt, & yes, we will likely be "wronged" in this lifetime. It's all part of human interactions, & we are all imperfect. It can be hard to let it go sometimes, but that's just what we ought to do. Scripture tells us, "For if you forgive men when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive men their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins," (Matthew 6:14, 15). Now, science & studies have also proven, however, that forgiveness is not just for our soul, but for our health as well. Bitterness really can eat us up inside! If you are struggling with this, you may be interested in our article, "YOU Hurt My Feelings!" Through a survey of 1,500 people a researcher … [Read more...]
