woman-senior-phone

We all have a million different numbers that we are supposed to be able to remember off the top of our head. Not long ago I was supposed to put my phone number into the grocery store's machine for my discount & I drew a blank. And the blank didn't fade away. girl-lollipop

Summer is coming soon & if you are a mom or dad with a chronic illness you may be wondering how you are going to fill in some of that spare time your children have. Here is one web site that get the kids, even if they are only 6 or 7 years old, to start thinking about what they could do to set a record. The Universal Record Database is touted as "the definitive site for human achievement." While I don't think seeing how many spoons you can knock off the counter with your nose in 20 seconds can be defined as a human achievement. . . who am I to judge? The fun thing about this site is that you can do almost anything, video tape it, & stick it up as a new record. One gal decided to see how many plastic spoons she could hold in 1 h& (45). … [Read more...]

Setting out to drastically improve your life with lupus may make you a little nervous. In fact you’re probably a little scared. What if it’s really too hard? What if this path is even harder than the one you’re already on? Think of the numerous other times when you’ve felt unsure (or down right scared) regarding a disease-related experience. What is the Best Time of Day to…

stop-watch

Ever stood around the pharmacy & wondered where all the people suddenly came from? As someone who lives with a chronic illness you may want to print this article out for your fridge or to stick in your Woman's Health Resource Journal to refer to when you are making plans. When should I have surgery? As early as possible in the morning. When you live with an illness I know it can be hard to get up & get there to a surgical center or hospital. But let's be realistic. . . are you really sleeping anyway? And most often you are unable to eat, drink or take your medications in the morning, so the sooner in the day you can get in, the better off you will be physically. Plus, studies have shown that patients have fewer anesthesia … [Read more...]

Yes, Christians Get Depressed

woman-headache-7

Over & over I still hear from people who have been told, "If your faith was strong enough, you wouldn't get that depressed. Jesus can heal you of that if you reallyy want Him to." Oh, how sad that makes me. One reason is that I do believe that speaking to a counselor can make a difference. Like any profession, there are some good counselors, & some not-so-good, so ask for referrals from your loved ones, mentors, or church leadership. But don't let the stigma or the expectations that Christians don't get depressed prevent you from seeking counsel if you are feeling "blue." (And there are many definitions of that light-hearted word "blue.") There is a large spectrum of depression & yes, Christians get depressed just like anyone else. I … [Read more...]

May is Arthritis Awareness Month & the Arthritis Foundation will be celebrating their 60th Anniversary.
