Am I a Hypochondriac If…

am-i-a-hypochondriac

By Lisa Copen We laugh as people say, "I think I may be a hypochondriac!" but is it really a funny matter? Not so much. Am I a hypochondriac if... I get up at 2:30 AM to google a symptom I am experiencing and I start imagining all the things it could be? It is unlikely. In today's age of having immediate information at our fingertips, it is much easier to just get out of bed and start searching than to wait until morning when the doctor's office is open and then we must decide to call him or not. Not the Brady Bunch – How to Live With a Bipolar Mom

badybunch

By Libby East When I was little my family would watch reruns of the Brady Bunch & I would think "gee I wish I could have a family like that". It was so nice to think that a family's biggest problems could be whether Marsha gets class president or Jan gets to be a pom pom girl or if Cindy will find her favorite doll. And the best part about all of these problems was that they could all be solved in a thirty minute episode. Even though they were a blended family they seemed perfect in my eyes. You see my family was far from perfect. My mom is Bipolar -- Manic Depressive. I have sisters who are twins & they are five years older than me. Where did bipolar come from? I don't know. They say that they remember her being normal & … [Read more...]

Survey Shows Few Pastors “Deal with” the Mentally Ill

A survey of 1,031 United Methodist pastors in Indiana & Virginia was done in 2000. We know the study is not recent, but very few studies like this exist. This study from Indiana University East & Ball State University showed that United Methodist pastors agree the church "should become more involved in education about mental illness & families affected by the disease, but few deal with the mentally ill on a regular basis." Joan LaFuze, the medical physiologist & professor at IU East who initiated the survey was not surprised by the results. She & her husb& are life-long Methodists & they have a son who was diagnosed with schizophrenia in 1981. A year later their daughter diagnosed with panic disorder. "I can't describe what … [Read more...]
