Couples Are Divorcing to Pay Medical Bills and Get Needed Coverage

What happens when you or your spouse has a chronic illness and it gets to the point where you financially are out of resources? Recently "The Today Show" had a story about a couple who dealt with the costs in the only way they knew how in the USA. The got divorced. The woman's husband, who was diagnosed with dementia that quickly progressed, needed round-the-clock care, and was moved to a nursing home. The bills were around $7500-8000 a month. Did you know the month of October has been National Domestic Violence Awareness Month? Here is a great web site/resource I wanted to point in your direction if you or someone you love is in an abusive relationship. Oftentimes women do not talk about their situation, & those who live with chronic illness may really feel "stuck" because if they leave an abusive spouse they may be without health insurance, transportation, a roof over their heads, & even a "caregiver."
