Writing Brings Healing to the Soul

mother-child

By Lisa Saunders, Special Guest Writer The moment I gave birth to my daughter Elizabeth in December of 1989, I felt a stab of fear—her head was so small, so deformed. Within 12 hours, I was told she had been profoundly disabled by congenital CMV (cytomegalovirus). The neonatologist said, “If she lives, she will never roll over, sit up, or feed herself.” He was right. Writing (& Scripture) was how I dealt with my initial shock & grief--organizing my thoughts of despair by getting them down on paper stopped them from endlessly swirling around & overwhelming me. Getting my revelations & stories inspired by Elizabeth published made me feel less alone as I connected with others. Sharing my story with others not … [Read more...]

Devotion – Being Authentic About Our Illness So God Can Be Glorified

"In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds & praise your Father in heaven."(Matthew 5:16) In having "silent" chronic illnesses, such as fibromyalgia & epilepsy, I have found some people do not underst& the symptoms & feelings I experiencing, such as the deep muscle pain, fatigue or the fear constantly inside of me over when the next seizure would come. I wouldn't tell anyone. I felt all alone in the world. However, when I made the choice to change my attitude toward the illness, everything changed for the better. I prayed & lifted up my symptoms & paralyzing feelings to God. I was no longer embarrassed by not being able to do as much as other friends of mine could do. If a friend asked if … [Read more...]

Sensory Toys Company Seeks Input

Does your child tug at the tags on his shirt? Does she always complain about the seams in her socks hurting? Sincerely Yours

Image by Oliv&er via Flickr Then the angel said to me, "Write: 'Blessed are those who are invited to the wedding supper of the Lamb!' And he added, "These are the true words of God." (Revelation 19:9 NIV) I received a h&written letter today. It was four pages of a dear friend's time, love & heart given as a gift to me. I have to tell you, I felt honored & privileged to receive such a gesture of care. Who would have thought that letter writing would become such a rare thing? I am surprised schools even continue to teach h&writing. The way life functions now, they might as well put a keyboard in front of preschoolers & get them started on the path to corporate success. Working with my Junior High son on his grammar has been a … [Read more...]
