National Invisible Illness Awareness Week will be held this year September 12-18, 2011. This annual event is sponsored by Rest Ministries and Lisa Copen began it in the year 2002.
Here are things to know:
[1] Spiritual Warfare is Happenin’!
In less than a week Lisa has received more mean-spirited e-mails and comments did in past years combined. There is a lot of spiritual warfare going on even among those who live with illness. Many of them want National Invisible Chronic Illness Awareness Week to specifically serve those who are atheists (and proud of it) as well as those who live with “alternative lifestyles.” Despite the fact that most all illness support online is for a secular audience, people want to stir up controversy for the few Christian resources that exist. Please cover all our events and outreach, as well as those involved or who we are reaching out to, in deep prayer, especially now through the end of September.
[2] Share Your Voice and What You Have Learned
We are now accepting blogs or articles from people like yourself would like to share what has been learned through the illness journey, how you’re coping, your frustrations, joys, etc. You can find out more topics to write about here at the Invisible Illness Week website, where your article will be featured.
[3] There Will Not Be a Virtual Conference This Year
Why? There are many factors that have gone into this decision and if you would like to read Lisa’s explanation you can find it in an article here at the website. There will be many blogs and articles as well as featured shows from past years.
[4] We’d Love Your Help!
If you are able to share a tweet, posts an article on your Facebook page, e-mail friends and family about the week, whatever, it is the people behind it who help make a success every year. Thank you in advance for all the ways you help make a difference.
Lisa,
Just wanted to send a note that I am praying for you! I appreciate everything you have done to help those of us living with Chronic Illness! I was very saddened to hear that you have received nasty emails. I know that many people will be praying for you as Invisible Illness Week comes closer. Blessings on you! Lacey
