Chronic illness can become all-consuming and the result can be that we sometimes spiritually wander too far away from God. Diane asks “are you aware of just how far you are going?”
“Some wandered in the desert wastelands, finding no way to a city where they could settle” . . . “Let them give thanks to the Lord for His unfailing love and His wonderful deeds for mankind, for He satisfies the thirsty and fills the hungry with good things” (Psalm:107: 4, 8-9).
The other day while on a walk with my friend we saw several newly hatched sandhill cranes, in the yard of her neighbor’s. They were plucking away, following their parents, as they learned to dig for bugs or other tasty treats to eat–learning the life long process of survival.
I enjoyed watching them, their fuzzy new bodies, small and frail, determined to keep up with their much larger parents. They wandered here and there, but were always checking to see where ‘Mom and Dad’ were.
If they were too far, they’d quickly scurry on back to be with in a safe and comforting distance, knowing that they would be protected . . . loved.
Wouldn’t it be wonderful if we chose to do the same with our Heavenly Father?
To recognize that in each circumstance we encounter, we are also learning skills for survival for life here on earth?
That though we may be living in these frail bodies, that often need protection, comfort, nutrition, both physical and spiritual?
If we would continually check to see how far we have wandered, sometimes unknowingly, and scurry on back close to our Lord, He is there waiting for us, ready with open heart and arms.
He will fill us and satisfy our thirst and hunger–not just with the fruits of this world that our body needs for survival physically–but more importantly, with His love and Spirit to satisfy our soul.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for the way You teach. I’m always so amazed that You can show me in the most beautiful and simple ways, how very much You love me and want to instill in me Your truths and wisdom. Help us all, Lord, not to wander. Help us to constantly check to see where we are and then scurry back close to You so that we will be safely within Your grasp, ever filled with Your Holy Spirit. Amen.

Di, this is such a great analogy of how we can stray from God, bogged down by other things and not noticing how far we’ve gone.
I had to look up what sandhill cranes looked like as I’d not heard of them before – so cute the little ones – I’m so glad God used them to provide this reminder, through you!
Blessings dear friend,
Fiona
Fiona, they are do cute when little! Though the afulys reek havok on your yard digging holes for bugs! Lol
But I too love how Gid uses the simplest things to teach us, such as these young birds and their parents.
How awesome is it that the God of the universe, takes the time to place these animals here and whisper quietly to us all, in the gentle breeze, His words if truth.
So blessed by Him and by you my friend! Tks for sharing! Love when you shafe hour photos too!
Hugs,
Di
Thanks Di 🙂
What a beautiful analogy God gave you to share with us through the sandhill cranes! Love that imagery & a great reminder for me, even tonight with a tough situation that has had me wandering away from the Lord.
Like Fiona, I had to look up pictures of the sandhill cranes to know what they look like too. I gather they’re quite a large bird when fully grown, but I’m sure the little ones are quite cute. I love the lessons that God whispers to us through His creation. They’re often the lessons that I recall more vividly. God bless. LOTSoluv Kerryn
Kerryn thank you for sharing, even in a time of struggling!
Yes the adult birds are quite large! And I too love how Gid uses so many things to get His message across!
I can remember lessons Have shared about little animals, too!
Enjoying those moments we share here is part of what makes the journey worthwhile and and deff more interesting!
